Ein Kerem

Located on the outskirts of the city west of Jerusalem is this picturesque village and neighborhood, surrounded by the beautiful Jerusalem hills giving it an elegant and natural atmosphere. Eik Kerem (translating to “spring of the vineyard” in Hebrew) like many places in Israel, has a long and rooted story to tell.

Ein Kerem holds a special place in the hearts of Christian pilgrims who journey to its serene surroundings. This village is believed to be the sacred spot where Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, experienced a miraculous pregnancy and birth. According to biblical lore, Elizabeth was visited by her cousin Mary, who was carrying Jesus, leading to the village well being named Mary’s Well. Over time, Ein Kerem has thrived around this revered water source, revered for its spiritual significance. Pilgrims make their way to the village to drink from the well and often take holy water with them in containers. Today, Ein Kerem boasts several active churches and monasteries, continuing to serve as a spiritual sanctuary.

Ein Kerem is a cherished destination within Israel’s tourism landscape, captivating visitors with its enchanting charm of stone houses, cobble streets and authentic energy. The village offers a delightful array of dining options in fine restaurants and cozy guest accommodations. Inspired by the beauty of Ein Kerem, artists have found a home here, showcasing their creative works to the public. Without a doubt, Ein Kerem is a place to explore, with historical, cultural, biblical, and natural beauty.
