JERUSALAM

Garden of Gathsemane & Church of all Nations

Stepping down the western slope of the Mount of Olives, leads to the Garden of Gethsemane, a place of profound importance to Christian history. Here, tradition tells us, Jesus sought solace in prayer the night before his crucifixion. The weight of the event hangs heavy in the air, and this very spot is where he is said to have wrestled with immense emotional turmoil.

Today, the garden offers a sanctuary for Christian pilgrims coming from all parts of the world and Christianity. Lush greenery and ancient olive trees, some predating the days of Jesus and serving as silent witnesses, create a sense of peace that coexists with the profound historical significance.  A visit here allows one to walk where Jesus walked, contemplating his final moments of freedom.

At the center of the site stands the Church of all Nations, an architectural jewel with several archeological layers, a testament to the enduring faith that draws visitors from across the globe.

Gethsemane’s past stretches beyond the biblical narrative.  The name itself whispers of its former use for olive oil production. Recent excavations have unearthed intriguing finds, including a ritual bath from the Second Temple period and remnants of ancient churches at the site, offering a window into the tradition and layered history of this place as sacred throughout the centuries.
