Tel Azekah

Towering over Israel’s Shfela region in a beautiful location, Tel Azekah boasts a rich 3,500-year history placed in layers. Strategically located at a crossroads, it thrived as a fortified city from the Canaanite Bronze Age through Roman times.

The Bible mentions Azekah as the setting for David and Goliath’s iconic battle! The city also played a key defensive role enduring Assyrian and Babylonian sieges thousands of years ago. Destroyed multiple times, Azekah remarkably rose again, even boasting a Hasmonean-era (Hannukah guys) fortress.

Today, archaeologists are piecing together Azekah’s story. This small and wonderful tell holds modern excavations, that follow earlier efforts in the 19th century, revealing new details about this historical and biblical site.
